Tuition is charged for three years of coursework. Beyond the third year, there is a $2250 dissertation preparation fee per semester. Most students will need four semesters for dissertation preparation.

Tuition and Fees are billed at a total of $13,000 per semester, due in May and December. Tuition may be paid by personal or certified check, wire transfer, or Visa/Mastercard. A 3% processing fee will be added to any amount paid by Visa/Mastercard. All tuition must be paid in full by the end of each semester.

Beyond tuition, students must pay for books, airfares to and from residency locations, and some meals during residencies. Estimated annual costs are $800 for books, $1500 for airfare to and from residencies and $700 for meals during residencies. These costs are estimated, will vary by student, and are the responsibility of the student. In addition, students must bring a laptop to residencies.

Course design and scheduling are intended to allow students to maintain their professional responsibilities while attending IDSVA.

Financial Aid
Federal Student Loans
IDSVA participates in the Title IV direct student loan program. Graduate students may borrow up to $20,500 per year in direct federal student loans to cover tuition and costs. Graduate PLUS loans are also available. To apply, fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and enter the IDSVA school code: G41888.

Scholarships
IDSVA offers modest scholarship support, based on a combination of need and merit. All students who complete the FAFSA are considered for a scholarship award. The FAFSA can be completed either before or directly after acceptance to IDSVA in order to be considered for a scholarship. Applicants will be notified of their scholarship award at the time of acceptance, or 2 to 3 weeks after the FAFSA is received, if the FAFSA was not filed with the application.

Fellowships
Currently, IDSVA awards one Writing Fellowship annually to a third-year student in the amount of $2000. The Third-Year Writing Fellow attends the summer residency at Spannocchia Castle to mentor first-year students in writing skills.

Payment Plans
Payment plans are available through IDSVA. Before attending the first year Italy residency in May, a down payment of $4500 is required. The balance of tuition due may be paid in equal monthly installments.

Travel, Food, & Lodging
IDSVA provides room and board during the twenty-four day residency at Spannocchia Castle and covers lodging costs at other residency locations, such as Venice, Paris, Milan and New York. IDSVA also covers the cost of curriculum-related travel from a residency campus to other locations, as, for example, from Spannocchia to Florence, Venice or Paris. Students are responsible for travel cost to and from residency locations, as for example, between their home and Italy, and between their home and New York. While in New York or on special assignment, such as Venice, Milan or Paris, students are responsible for their own meals.
